Houston's climate is disgusting. It's probably the stickiest, hottest... anyway, it's terrible as far as humidity and heat. The rest of Texas is great though! You could visit NASA in Houston (I think they have a little museum and tour there). Or if you don't mind driving - maybe visit San Antonio, which is much better tourist wise. =) There's the Alamo, the River walk, El Mercado, and the food is amazing.

My advice is don't judge Texas by what you think of Houston. And bring bug spray, 'cause Houston is full of mosquitoes. Flippers wouldn't hurt either, as humid as it is.
I actually like the city of Houston for how it's laid out, but I can't stand the climate. Other parts of Texas are nicer to live in.

I can't emphasize what Dani said enough - Texas is HOT! Served a mission in Houston for a year and a half, and it was HOT and humid all the time! I hated it, couldn't wait to get back to Utah. :) The humidity makes you sweat like a pig at a luau - make sure you stay hydrated. :) Things we did for fun: Shopping at the Galleria, IMAX theater, Houston Museum of Natural Science (my favorite was the butterfly center) http://www.hmns.org/ Have fun...

Texas is hot...and Houston is fun. Definitely go to the NFL game, b/c in Texas everything is different. Houston is NOT representative of the rest of Texas. Have fun! Dallas is much funner though! ~Toodles, Dani.

Thanks for the suggestion. So far, the orthotics seem to be doing the job (my staying off pavement may have something to do with that), but the soda can idea sounds brilliant. Thanks, too, for adding me to your list.

I absolutely agree with your open letter, everything you said is right on target. R and I have been extremelly lucky with his ex-in-laws, they treat me with kindness, respect and love and I love to think that if God blesses us with a child that child will be blessed to have three sets of grandparents. As for me understanding, I can tell you that yesterday while cleaning out some things in an old bookbag, R found old letters from his ex-wife, he looked at me as though I would be angry and asked me to throw them out, but I told him that they didnt bother me, that I would throw them out if he wanted me to, but that I would like to read them to get a better idea of how their relationship was, of course only if that didnt bother him. He said it didnt and after reading some, I told him that he was lucky, luckier than most people will ever be for he has been blessed in life with two people who would give the world to him if he asked for it. I would have liked his wife. And I thank God daily that I am blessed with not only his love but that of his family and the his past in-laws.
Sorry for the huge rant

Thanks for the cool comments at my page - I have not figured out how to spell check from D-Land. But yeah... the Tucson Marathon. My mom is the #1 Grand Masters Female and so I know a little about running. Tucson might be the way for MG to post a smokin' time right out of the gate. The only worries I would have are the temp fluctuations that happen when between dawn and the sun being fully up here, even in the winter it can be dramtic and the fact that there is a strech of the course that would get boring due to endless miles of desert. The major upside is that Tucson in the winter is full of tourists, college kids, and you could totally bring the baby and not feel out of place.
